A photo session with Toni Burks Photography begins with a conversation about your needs and desires and the interests of your children/family. From there we will choose a location and time to set up our shoot.
I’m happy to help you with your clothing decisions as well as any items you’d like to bring with you to have in the photographs. It’s ok to bring more than one change of clothing for the shoot.
On picture day, I’ll arrive at the appointed time and take a short while to get familiar with the surroundings and the light. If we’re in your home, I might ask your child to give me a tour. This will help him/her become comfortable with me while I’m looking for the best places to take pictures. I may even ask to move some things around to take better advantage of the beautiful light streaming in your windows.
During this time, I may begin taking a few informal pictures, but all the while, I’ll be establishing a relationship with your children and helping them to become comfortable with me and with my camera. Some kids need more of this than others.
We’ll play and talk a little and I’ll ask them to do certain things that will help get some great images.
Smiles are great when they’re natural. So you’ll not generally hear me asking them to smile, but allowing them to be themselves and capturing them naturally.
I’ll usually spend anywhere from 1 to 1 ½ hours with your family. We’ll take breaks when I think the kids have had enough or when they may need a drink or a snack.
I may have a special shot I want to try. I’ll usually save this for the end when we need something fun to try. It may be a game or a special prop.
I may ask you as parents to take a little break while I work with the kids, maybe to go to a different part of the house or to take a little walk.
I’ll take pictures until I think I have enough.
If you have other questions, don’t hesitate to ask!
